60,000 students joined British Universities in 2018 and there are 60,000 reasons why you should join City, University of London.

To save your eyes some strain and with the help of some of our incredible students who you could be studying with, we’ve picked out some of the best reasons why City is the place for you.

Find out why City is the place for you.

A place to get a head start

City students don’t just receive an excellent academic education; they also have options to work with industry heavyweights while they study.

Shivani Solanki, (BSc Investment and Financial Risk Management), who came to City through Adjustment, reflected on her time at City and her placement at UBS.

Shivani said: “Coming to university through Adjustment was quite scary as I had no idea what I wanted to do and all my friends had offers.

“The course is also a little different, so I was a bit unsure on what I was applying for, but when I saw that I would actually be using real world events and studying the current market I realised that this offered me so much more.”

A place for careers

Mould your career and build your future at City.

Lahini Sivaganeshan, (BSc Computer Science, 2019), who spent a six-month placement as part of the project to build Bloodhound SCC, a car attempting to move faster than the speed of sound, now works as a Technology Solutions Engineer at the same company.

Lahini, a leading example of women in STEM, said: “Placements like these are a great way to develop skills and grow confidence. Students should definitely try to get a placement, as it gives a real insight to work-life and can help you decide what sort of environment you would like to work in following university.”

A place for opportunity

When opportunity presents itself, students are at the forefront of the occasion.

Just ask Rosie Dowsing and Olivia Wilson, (MA Broadcast Journalism), who became royal correspondents for a day during The Duchess of Sussex’s visit.

Speaking on the experience Rosie said: “Myself and fellow ‘Royal Correspondent’ Olivia Wilson split the all-important roles: while I took photos for an online article, she recorded the atmospheric sound and took a video.

“After the Duchess entered the building, we focused on interviewing students and members of the public to get a variety of perspectives on the importance of her visit.”

City students also got to watch NBA teams train during their visit at the London Global Game at the O2 Arena.

Vlad Kolesnik, (BSc Finance 2018) and former captain of the City Men’s Basketball Team, said: “It was so exciting, I have never been this close to NBA basketball players before, even last year when I was actually in Boston.

“It is such a nice gym, and it was a dream come true watching them train where we train and do the drills that we do for our games.”

Vlad Kolesnik, (BSc Finance 2018), Martina Capelli, (BSc Business Management) and Aastha Mehta (LLB Law) with Guerschon Yabusele, power forward for the Boston Celtics.
