What’s next for CityXChange?

100 Resilient Cities
The CityXChange Roadmap
2 min readNov 17, 2017

In the 1960s, The Rockefeller Foundation convened many of the world’s leading scientists, political leaders and agri-business companies to launch the Green Revolution, which in the decades since has saved countless lives worldwide by massively increasing farm productivity. We believe that, in the long-run, CityXChange has the potential to be a 21st Century-version of the Green Revolution, sparking transformative collaborations between leading innovators and cities around the world that can help reduce inequality, strengthen communities and improve the quality of life for all urban dwellers.

At the inaugural convening and in the months since, CityXChange has helped program participants view urban challenges through a new, more opportunistic lens and opened minds to new solutions. We will also continue building the Playbook, adding new insights and exploring with our partners on a deeper and more tactical level how to put the initial recommendations into practice.

CityXChange Summit 2018 Themes

CityXChange Summit 2018 will provide an opportunity for both new and repeat participants to learn from the partnerships begun at CityXChange Summit 2017, while considering some of the following complex questions.

  1. What CityXChange Summit 2017 partnerships succeeded, and why?
  2. What partnership models work best for cities and startups? What alternative procurement models are most effective, and what concrete steps can cities take to implement them?
  3. What structures can help cities and startups find each other? Cities often have a difficult time learning from each other’s successes, and that includes successes partnering with tech startups. We will further explore how cities can use demo days, technical standards and other structures to better work together to identify valuable technologies.
