With spring officially just around the corner, many people are starting to get anxious and excited to complete their spring cleaning. Whether you see it as an exciting opportunity to get organized or a necessary (but boring) task, the reality is that spring cleaning helps you spring out of winter and into summer with a cleaner, more organized home and life.

Below you’ll find the perfect template to get rid of the old and head into springtime with a home you’ll be proud to show off to your friends and family.

1. From the windows to the walls

Though you likely clean and vacuum your home regularly, windows and walls are often left neglected while tidying up. Use glass cleaner and a soft cleaning cloth to leave your windows streak-free. When it comes to walls, you’ll want to spot clean for fingerprints, dirt, and smudges. If you have young kids, consider getting on their level to get a better look at any smudges they may have left behind, and then depending on the paint you have on your walls, wipe away stains with either a magic eraser or a soft cloth with soap and warm water.

2. Check out your doorways next

Another area of your home that you might miss during regular cleaning is your doorways and door tracks. Open all your doors, and sweep away any dust, hair, or dirt, then clean using a wet cloth or mop any residue you might see.

3. Look up & down

Oftentimes we tend to clean the spots we see most frequently (makes sense!). Since spring cleaning is all about getting into the nitty gritty, as you move through each room of your home, scan the creases of your walls and ceilings moving down to your baseboards, to identify any areas that need to be wiped down.

4. Move your furniture and appliances

After you wipe down your walls, doorways, and baseboards, it’s time to make sure the entire floor of your home is clean. Instead of vacuuming around furniture or sweeping around appliances as you typically might, let spring cleaning be the occasion you need to move your appliances and furniture and make sure the floor underneath is as clean as the floor in the rest of your home.

5. Clean your window treatments and pillows

As spring nears, consider removing and laundering all of your throw pillow covers and taking the vacuum to all of your window treatments. After slipping your clean covers back on your pillows and taking a look at your refreshed window treatments, you’ll be glad you did.

6. Get organized

There’s no time like the spring to get organized, and there’s no better way to get organized than by getting rid of the things in your home you no longer use or need. As you transition you and your family’s wardrobe, only pack away the things they’ll use next year and donate or give away the rest. As you go through books, toys and other small miscellaneous items, consider what you really need and what could be better used by another family. Finally, as you look through the piles that have piled up over the course of winter, ask yourself if there’s a better place for the things you can’t seem to throw away. If there’s not, make them a designated space and commit to putting them away after every use.

Whether you’re cleaning a four-bedroom house or a studio apartment, perhaps start by just picking a few points to focus on for now, and tackle the rest throughout the year for a much-needed seasonal refresh. Who says spring cleaning has to only happens in the spring?

And if you’re ever stumped on how to properly clean those fancy throw pillows and shams, you can just throw them into your next 2ULaundry pickup (Wash, Dry, Fold, or Dry Clean/Launder & Press for more delicate materials).
