Last-Minute DIY Halloween Costumes
There’s something about this time of year that makes time fly. Just a moment ago it was summer, and now it’s nearly Halloween and you’ve found yourself costume-less and running out of time. If you’re in need of a costume but don’t have time to buy anything in stores or online — or they’re already sold out of everything good — look no further than around your house. Check out the ideas below for costumes you can make from things you already have laying around the house.
Beanie Baby
All you’ll need to complete this costume is a pair of animal ears on a headband and a couple of pieces of construction paper. Cut a red piece of construction paper into a heart and cut a white piece of construction paper into the iconic logo-letters “TY” (online stencils are also available and super helpful!). Simply hang your TY heart around your neck and your costume is complete.
Rosie the Riveter
Rosie the Riveter is an iconic figure that makes for an easy costume to create from things you already have at home. All you’ll need to do is style your hair, grab a red bandana and a blue shirt with the sleeves rolled up, paint on some red lipstick, and bang! You’re good to go.
Care Bear
To create your adorable Care Bear costume, all you’ll need is a matching top and bottom of the same — preferably, pastel — color and a printout of one of the Care Bear’s cute tummy logos. Sunshine Bear is especially easy to illustrate on a whim (hello, it’s a Sun!). Adding pastel ears glued onto a headband is not necessary, but they’ll really make the whole DIY effort come together.
Black Cat
Nothing screams Halloween like dressing up as a black cat. To create this simple costume, dress in all black, glue some black cat ears on a headband, create a tail using black fabric (optional), and use makeup to create a cat-like look.
