With the arrival of the new year, people are making resolutions about what they will and won’t be doing in the new year. While some might focus on health and fitness and others might focus on work and family time, we’re here to help you plan some serious resolutions for the laundry room. Check out the list below for this year’s top laundry-related new year’s resolutions.

Laundry shall not be left in the machine overnight.

Sometimes, even when we start with the best of intentions, wet laundry gets left in the machine overnight, forgotten as we head off to bed. While it would be ideal if we could simply toss the laundry in the dryer the next day, the reality is that it begins to smell and must be washed again before it can be dried. This year is the year of fresh laundry though and whether it be by setting a reminder on your phone, laundry shall not be left in the machine overnight again!

Clothes shall be folded promptly.

As tempting as it is to simply pull out what we need to wear and leave the rest of the laundry unfolded in the basket, this year we vow to fold the laundry right when it finishes in the dryer. While it might be a pain to drop everything and fold, doing so will mean crisp, wrinkle-free clothes and a happy closet for the year to come.

Clothing items shall be put away immediately after they are folded.

Not only will clothing be folded as soon as it’s done in the dryer this year, it will also be put away as soon as it’s folded. That means linens in the linen closet, shirts hung and pants placed neatly on their shelves or in their drawers.

Dry clean-only clothing shall go to the dry cleaner.

Dry clean-only clothing is often very special. It’s the winter coat we adore or the party dress we pull out on special occasions. Despite our love for these special items though, we often bypass the care instructions that are so vital to keeping them stay clean. This year, no matter the cost or inconvenience of heading to the dry cleaner, dry clean-only items will actually make it to the cleaners.

When in doubt, call in reinforcements.

As your calendar ramps back up, you’ll be juggling even more tasks in and out of the house. For those heavy loads and busy weeks that really creep up on you, call in reinforcements! Whether that means outsourcing your week’s worth of laundry to 2ULaundry or enlisting the kids’ help, there’s no reason to feel like you have to power through it alone.

As you ring in the new year, keep these resolutions close — we recommend somewhere close to the laundry room — and consider adding a few into your list of must do’s for 2020.
