With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, many people are making dinner reservations, ordering flowers or doing some last-minute gift shopping for their special someone. What they should also be doing though is getting ahead of the sure-to-come Valentine’s Day stains that will leave their clothes blotchy and stained after their big night out. Instead of frantically googling “how to remove…..” after the fact, check out this handy-dandy Valentine’s Day stain guide and be prepared!

Chocolate

Chocolate can be a tough stain to get out. If you or your Valentine’s Day date dripped chocolate on your clothing you’re going to want to act fast to prevent permanent staining. First, rub the stain with laundry detergent and then soak it in a bowl of water for about 30 minutes before popping it in the washing machine on a regular cycle.

Wine

Red wine is a classic Valentine’s Day drink. If you’ve avoided it in the past for fear of spills or stains, rest assured that you can enjoy it this year with confidence that you’ll be able to defeat any red wine stain. First, blot the stain with a warm, wet cotton cloth, being sure not to rub the area. Next, coat the stain with a generous amount of salt to absorb the liquid. After that, slowly and carefully pour boiling water over the stained area from a height of 8–12 inches. After that, you’ll want to set your washing machine to its hottest cycle and wash your garment!

Peppercorn Sauce

A peppercorn sauce stain can take a few steps to remove but, with a little elbow grease, your garment can be as good as new. First, remove as much of the sauce as you can by blotting the spot with a paper towel or scraping the spot with a dull knife. Next, apply a small amount of detergent to the spot and blot to help it saturate the spot. After that, you’ll want to rinse the area with water and watch as your stain totally disappears.

Strawberries

Chocolate covered strawberries are a delicious and romantic treat with the real potential to leave behind a stain. If you’ve found yourself with a strawberry stain on your favorite garment you’ll need to act quickly to ensure you can erase it. First, flush the stain with cool water until the area is fully saturated. Next, soak your garment for 15 minutes in a mixture of 1 tbs of white vinegar, ½ tsp laundry detergent, and 1 qt of cool water. After soaking your garment, rinse the sport again with cool water before laundering it with chlorine safe bleach.

Raspberries

Raspberries are another Valentine’s day favorite food with big potential to leave a stain. Luckily, the steps for removing it are simple and straightforward. Like with a strawberry stain you’ll want to first flush the stain with cool water until the area is fully saturated. Next, you’ll soak your garment for 15 minutes in a mixture of 1 tbs of white vinegar, ½ tsp laundry detergent, and 1 qt of cool water. After soaking your garment, rinse the sport again with cool water before laundering it with chlorine safe bleach.
