Remembering Yasmin Ryan

We are shocked and deeply heartbroken that our friend and colleague Yasmine Ryan tragically passed away in Istanbul. But we are not grieving. We have decided to have faith instead, in a peaceful, informed and resilient world that Yasmine wanted. Her dream of making journalism that matters and a community of supportive journalists, is also our mission. We will pursue it in Yasmine’s name. Our love and condolence goes out to Yasmine’s family, friends and all the people she touched. Message from our founder

“Yasmine always wanted to go out and discover the world. That is what she did since she started in journalism at the age of thirteen. She had fierce empathy for all sides. Her journalism impacted how stories were told and how journalists worked around her. Yasmine Ryan was a mighty heart. She made people smarter. Her work will live on.”

Message from our Advocacy Director
“Just days ago, I spoke with Yasmine Ryan about her message for the ending violence against women in journalism campaign. To advocate for women in our field and help give them the support and voice they need to be empowered and do their job. Now, I’m left anguished and disheartened at the thought of what she was planning on sharing with the myself, the Coalition and the world as a whole. Her loss leaves me speechless. Her legacy, I now realize, is her message to all of us. As we raise awareness for women during this time, let’s not forget Ryan and everything she has done to empower us all. She will be missed.”
