Discovering coliving

Daniel decided to change life in 2014 and left his job in Sweden to reach San Francisco. He first landed in a hostel (yeah, we all do that, we want to meet people!) but it was not the right kind of vibe (no way!). He found about Hacker Home Menlo Park, moved in, and for the first time in his life he felt belonging to a family, to something bigger than him.
He describes himself like the black sheep in his hometown. All his friends were into big companies and had video games jobs. He was the entrepreneurial guy always trying to innovate, create businesses, live different experiences, seeking freedom.
In Menlo Park, he found like minded people he instantly connected with. He discovered that this kind of place was named a “coliving”. He wanted to be part of that and negociated to buy the domain “coliving.com”

Why coliving ?

At that time, he didn’t know what to do with the domain but he knew coliving was an obvious need.
We are more and more citizen of the internet world and need physical places in our old world named Earth. We are becoming independants and want to belong to something bigger. We want a family where we help each other. Airbnb started all that. The proved us that Yes, it’s cool to live together
We’re lazy. We’re on our iPhone all day and don’t go out. But if you are in the same house as other great people, then you start to connect again !

What is Coliving.com ?

The value of a coliving space is it’s members. In San Fransisco, where it all started, if you landed in a hacker house, you didn’t want to leave. And ex-members started to create new houses everywhere in the world.
The number of spaces began to rise and Coliving.com is now the reference platform to find a coliving space with 100+ listings.
Soon it will be a matching system for colivings to find members who fit and for members to find their perfect new home

The futur of coliving

If you have ever lived in a coliving space, I’m sure 99% of your friends thought you where crazy, right ? Why would you have 10 roomates if you can have you own studio for the same price ?!
Yeah, they’re not the target. Yet.
We both know that more and more people will become independant, work remotely, and feel the need to belong to a community of like minded people.
Soon, even couples and families will move in. When big players will be in every city and target a mainstream population, new concepts will emerge for niches. 40+ singles ? Couples with children ? Music creators ? Collaborative economy is not new, it’s just growing exponentially.

Why are people surprised about coliving when we have student residences and third age residencies ? My grandma lives in a “coliving”. I did when I was a student. Yes, today I prefer to have less square meters and live more things !
