The eagled eyed of you might have noticed that in the past few weeks we have been slowly updating assets on our site, our social media channels, and other platforms. We have added new logos and icons, background images, improved copy, and have a fresh new colour palette. That’s right, codebar has a new visual identity!

Our new logo

You might wonder, ‘but what was wrong with the old identity’? You are surely missing the lovely illustrations or our old, albeit a bit clunky, wordmark. Our original identity was designed with a website and a twitter account in mind. Fast-forward 3 years and our brand has to work much harder: we have several chapters in the UK and in Europe, a twitter account to go with each of the chapters, two blogs and a slack channel, not to mention other platforms we use scattered around the internet. To tie all these disparate services together, we needed a mark that looked good as a twitter avatar but also printed on a t-shirt.

The mark in two colour ways

The new codebar identity was designed with versatility and extendibility in mind and is much easier to apply to the different scenarios we use our brand in, from our website to social media, and merchandise. Wait, did someone mention merch? Indeed, soon you will be able to rock awesome codebar tees and totes if you wish. Keep your eyes on our official twitter account for an announcement coming soon.

Our new mark working our main Twitter account

If you’d like to learn more about the brand and how we use it head over to our brandbook that we have made public. If you want to use any of our assets (icons, logos, the mark, etc.) we will be slowly updating the official github repo with them in a variety of formats. And please do let us know how you like the new brand by commenting here or by tweeting at us @codebar.

This very publication has been redesigned

A big thank you to everyone who worked on the new design, especially our amazing designer Sam Canvin, our project manager Kimberley Cook and our implementor Kriszta Matyi. We hope you love our new visual identity as much as we do and embrace it with open arms.
