codebar has been running for 4 years now and frequently we get asked “Do you help students get jobs once you’ve taught them to code?”. There have been a number of instances where a codebar student has found a job through us, mainly through informal introductions and organisers sharing potential jobs on our social media that were sent to us by community members. However, we want to do more to help students find employment opportunities when they are ready for the next step in their journey.

Which is where our job board comes in. Our aim is to be the one stop shop for all junior developer roles in the UK. All jobs featured on our jobs board will fall under the following three categories:

  • paid internships
  • apprenticeships
  • junior developer roles

In line with the points outlined above, we will only post opportunities that are geared towards our students. We will not share jobs that are looking for senior, mid-weight, or junior developers with 2 years of experience (most of our students don’t have 2 years of experience). To ensure this is effective, each job that is submitted will be checked by the codebar team before appearing on the board to ensure it is actually junior developer friendly.

We will be charging a small fee of £35 to post on the board. This small fee, in return for access to our community of 8500+ developers, will help us run the codebar infrastructure that allows us to run our regular programming workshops. In the interest of full transparency, here is what we are planning to spend the raised money on:

  • running the codebar infrastructure (website hosting, email provider, etc.)
  • giving monetary support to our smaller chapters that are not based in tech centres
  • scholarships to our students to attend meet-ups, conferences, and to access other opportunities that might advance their careers

So if you’re a company that wants to take on a junior developer, an apprentice or are looking for participants for your graduate scheme, please consider posting your job on our jobs board. To do this log into the codebar website, click menu then visit ‘List a job’. In return we will advertise the job to our ~6800 Twitter followers and make the announcement in our Slack channel of over 2900 people.

Hopefully together we can make it easier for junior folks to discover and apply for junior level jobs. Happy posting!
