*** Applications for this scholarship have now closed****

We are extremely excited to announce that Makers are giving 6 of our community members the opportunity to complete their Bootcamp for free. Yes for free!

Makers is a 16 week Bootcamp. In this time, you will learn JavaScript and Ruby to a standard that makes you ready to apply for your first software engineering job. Makers pride themselves in ensuring you will be a language agnostic developer by the end of their course, meaning you’ll have the skills to code in any language.

The initial stage with us will involve a cover letter, a tech test, and some questions for us to get to know you a little better. This application isn’t about experience, we are looking for passion and eagerness to learn. In your cover letter, we want to know what area of tech interests you the most, what are your career aspirations and why you think you are better than all the other candidates applying. We should also mention this is full-time Monday — Friday 9–5, so only apply if you can fully commit to it. You do not necessarily have to be UK based to apply as this will be remote, but you do need to work 9–5 UK hours.

As part of this scholarship, you will be an ambassador for codebar and Makers. We will work with you to ensure that what you do as an ambassador doesn’t take too much of your time and is something you enjoy doing. You could write blog posts, create videos for our YouTube channel, create coding graphics for our Instagram, run some “Intro to …” sessions for our communities, or anything else that takes your fancy. We want to hear what you would do as an ambassador for codebar as part of your application.

From all applicants, codebar will pass on 20 candidates who we think would be perfect for the scholarship. Makers will then go through their normal interview process. It is 16 weeks for the full course from start to finish, a 4-week pre-course (getting to grips with the command line, Git, and firming up your Ruby basics), and then the 12-week Bootcamp. They recommend completing the codecademy Ruby course and hitting 100 honor points on codewars for the best chance of getting in! All 6 successful candidates will join a cohort together in July.

Applications are now open and will close on F̶r̶i̶d̶a̶y̶ ̶2̶n̶d̶ ̶A̶p̶r̶i̶l̶ Friday 9th April. We are keeping it open for this length so you can take your time and not rush. Spend time thinking about your cover letter, and what you would do as an ambassador. If you want to run through anything with us, we are here to help and want you to succeed, so please drop us an email at hello@codebar.io.

The application form is here ➡️ https://forms.gle/NkkQRCJs3aoRXQdk6. We have created a #makers-scholarship channel in our Slack so you can connect with others applying too.

Good luck!
