The Boston Car Wars (1978) is the first fictional treatment of an effort to dispose entirely of the automobile. Adam Panflick, gambler, failed theologian and lover of the elusive Serena, determines to combat the car in the most challenging arena of all, the city of Boston. The result is mayhem. A feast of car crashes that would warm the heart of a Guy Grand. Fiction it is and so it should remain. Nonetheless, in the years since its imagined happening, there has been a growing realization that a world tied to big oil and the seductions of the automobile industry is not a safe place for future generations.
