Aftertaste — A poem on nightmares
Do you remember that dream
That woke you up
in the middle of the night?
Sweating profusely
Jolted out of sleep
You sat up straight
Scared, panting.
Do you remember that nightmare
From the wee hours of the morning?
Do you remember it all?
The story behind it
That had you kicking your feet
Into nothingness
The feeling of a free-fall.
Do you remember anything
Or like me, nothing?
Yet they leave behind
Something…
A feeling, a fear
A worry that I can’t really place,
All day long
The heart never calms down
The balance has been disturbed
And you are but helpless
For nothing calms it down.
All I remember is this aftertaste
The beginning of a terrible day.
