Breaking through with bread

Sometimes, a wave hits you late at night.
Making you feel incapable, stuck,
overwhelmed with everything you’ve never done,
everything you want to do,
and everything that will always be in question.

You remember the dreams that were crushed,
the no’s,
the work that didn’t lead to where you thought it would.

You remember that you used to dream more,
make more
and seek textures without asking for permission.

You remember
how you used to bake cakes every week,
and every day was a celebration.

And sometimes,
despite full Sundays,
you bake and knead and twist your way back.
You find ground in the swirly smells and fluffy,
crunchy textures of freshly baked bread.
