Chocolate and soldiers

Once, when he was just a kid, in the midst of the horrors of war, a soldier shared a bar of chocolate with him. It didn’t make sense; they were the enemy. Evil. Soulless… So he started to ask questions, but not out loud of course… those kinds of questions are dangerous. Now he thinks both “sides” are full of crap, like toddlers squabbling over a favorite toy, but with guns and blood and so much pain, so much loss.

Toddlers learn to share, but who will teach the adults? Maybe peace isn’t made in boardrooms, it’s made with candy.
