Going past the past

All of us have a past. We have memories. Some good. Some bad. We’ve all made mistakes. And we do have regrets.

We keep bringing up the past into our present and future. We cling on to stuff. Things we cherish. Things we want to let go off, forever but can’t no matter how hard we try.

We don’t often think about accepting things that are gone. Try to accept our past and our regrets as a part of our lives. Accepting that the pain makes us stronger. And better humans.

Life is about making mistakes, regretting them for maybe a while and then moving on to new stuff.

But how long can you regret things for ? An hour, a day, a week or a year ?

And on what basis can you decide that? Or can you decide that at all ? I guess time decides it for you.

Time is a healer but it’s like a nuclear reaction. It can never heal one hundred percent.

Obviously, the short time that we get on earth can’t be spent on regretting a lot of things about the past or pondering about what the future has in store, right ?

Cliched yes, but the present is a present. And the day we begin to accept the regrets as a passive part of our life, we move on.

Everything happens for your own good or so they say. And it’s a good thing to believe in, whether it’s true or not. If you did not get into the college you always wanted to, maybe it’ll motivate you to work harder on your course. If you did not land your dream job, maybe you’ll start your own thing and achieve bigger things. If you missed your train because you overslept, you might meet the love of your life in the next one. You never know! The butterfly effect might just work ;)

Just being sorry for not getting into the college, job or the train doesn’t really solve a purpose unless it triggers that little bit of extra motivation. The motivation to move on, accepting failures, and working harder on your next goal.

We have a lot of strings attached to us. We can’t just cut them off. Like a puppeteer, it might be good enough to just learn and control them.

Perhaps, we can never get over the past. But, we sure can get past it.
