Justice blinded

If SCOTUS keeps on gutting our democracy

If the Supreme Court
keeps on as it has
It is gutting governance
The very reason for democracy
The very hope of all the world

Why it does so is no mystery
Power is an elixir like perfume

I see the Justices take little sniffs
looking in the mirror all the while
At that moment all thought of the
evil they can do
is subsumed in the headiness
of their own self regard

Such is the way of power
Such is the seeming fate of the world

The gutting began
in the Bush hastiness
and proceeded in the
Obama hatred

And because we are
enwreathed in wealth beyond
past poverty
there is a shield of
protection from the real
enveloping those whose power is able
to send the old woman to her grave
condemn the child to jail
while the choice at lunch
comes down to shrimp or salmon

Disgust is what I feel at this
shabbiness and the transparency
of all self-justifications

I write this as the final straw of justice
is balanced out there

Thinking the court has the power
to disturb me

And the power to decree
the death of millions

And then my mind goes back
to the episode that began this nightmare
and cold anger returns
and holds to see
what they will do
now
