In the shallows left by ebbing tide, a single figure wearing a neon green inflatable ring around his waist waits, gazing out to the sea.

From a distance, an accidental observer asks a companion, “what is he waiting for?”

Momentarily distracted from a cellphone, the companion glances up and back quickly, replying “What are we waiting for?”
