My Mother, the Horror Sister ☠️💀
My mother is the daughter of India’s best known horror film makers – The Ramsays. The jokes that kind of horror tag can inspire are endless! Trust me.
But one cannot escape fate. And here I am, having written a book about the real ghosts that have haunted the family that ironically scared half of the country with their films.
Even I don’t believe it!
“Ghosts In Our Backyard” is above all a tribute to my mother (Ramsay sister to the Ramsay Brothers) and her family, The Ramsays. Though my mother has unfortunately lost most of her family, including three brothers in the span of a year, this was my way of keeping the memory of them alive in the world. It was the only consolation I could offer my mother.
Above all, she has devoted her life to us, casting all her dreams aside. We are her only world. She is an amazing storyteller who can create a fantasy world or a terrifying tale with equal skill. Who knows what heights she would have reached, given an opportunity to complete her education and not gotten married at the young age of nineteen?
Life gives us very few moments where we can witness sheer joy in the eyes of those we love dearly.
Seeing the look on my mother’s face when she opened the carton sent by HarperCollins and held the book close to her heart, made all the effort and labour of four gruelling years worthwhile.
We can never repay the debt we owe our parents but we can keep trying by giving them the love, care and appreciation they deserve. I am really grateful that I got a chance to see such happiness on my mother’s face.
I kept my promise to her “Mom, everyone knows the Ramsay Brothers but after this book, they will also know the Ramsay Sister’s contribution to the horror industry.”
My mother narrated the story to my grandfather F.U.Ramsay that became India’s first full-fledged horror film. And now she will get her due. An achievement that belongs to her and her only.
Today, I am known as her daughter in connection with this book. I am proud as a daughter to carry my mother’s name, just like she carried me in the womb and in her arms.
I don’t know whether this book will be a bestseller but I know that it’s already a success where it matters.. in my mom’s heart.
