Nothing need endure
Nothing need endure
Nothing need be fated
Nothing is inevitable
save in retrospect
We need not have dropped the bomb
or turned the ovens on
We idolize our memory
to keep from facing freedom
There is one thing that stops us
It is our fear of dying
The only lesson that needs learning is
There is no harm in trying
Silly verses you will say
Cynicism wins
No my friend
I will repeat
There’s never harm in trying
When we repeat
the evils of the past
and say such evils are
what lasts
we are slaves of history
We let past nightmares
be our puppeteers
That’s fine if progress is a lie
But it is not a lie
and so such thought is what must die
