Irony

You thought you’d kill democracy
You thought you’d buy your way to power
You didn’t reckon on our being free
Your hubris was our finest hour

Synedoche

GOP you are a caution
ravaging the poor
sapping hope and health

Metonymy

Beyond the pale of opportunity
Beyond the firelight of family
There is a light within strong as the sun
That summons us to be all we will be

Metaphor

That tree beside the water won’t be moved
Its branches can enfold a universe
And when her time arrives she gladly goes
Watching a widening stream bear gifts diverse
