The Love You Opened

Is it true
that rose quartz
will help our prayers
reach the ones we love?
I don’t know
but what else can I do?
So I place it
in my palm
and press it close
to my chest
as I whisper
to the space
where your face
used to be.

Where am I
these days?
I don’t know.
A whirlwind
of gravity
drops me
on a shuffled calendar.
Is it November?
Is it Monday?
Is it the afternoon?
I don’t know.
Everyday
is everyday.
I am untethered
but for the anchor
of you.

You,
grounding me
until I can see
through the storm.
If you are there
at the end of it
then I have the strength
to move on.

Still at home.
Still in love.

I bless the miles
between us
because
they touch you.
I will replay
every memory
until I can see you
again.

If not for you,
I would not care
if again ever happened.
But nothing — not even

separation

can erase
the love you opened.

So I speak to you
every night
at moonrise,
a crystal
near my heart.
And I will wait
and wait
for the sunrise
when we are no longer apart.
