Your Anti-Trump Efforts Are Futile

And I’ll tell you why

My mom is not a Donald Trump fan. She’ll talk politics with my brother and I — and sometimes my dad (he kind of wants to Make America Great Again, and has the hat to prove it) — but never her friends.

They’re “Trump people.” Things can get heated, and it never ends well.

My mom sent me the video above yesterday. She knows Bernie’s my guy, and I know she’s voting Democrat in November regardless of who the nominee is.

But I found myself doubting the effectiveness of Hillary Clinton’s anti-Trump ad. And I want to take this opportunity to explain an important realization I had.

Rethinking Your Anti-Trump Strategy

Did you watch the ad?

Things like this won’t work because the points raised in the video — the clips of Trump being Trump — are all the reasons people like him in the first place.

You call an asshole an asshole, and that asshole’s going to shrug and nod his head. It doesn’t hurt his stock.

And his supporters? They’re going to do the same. They LOVE that he’s an asshole — that’s why he’s flattened every other Republican nominee (even the Zodiac killer himself).

If you’re a voter on the fence — and Trump nor Clinton nor Sanders is doing it for you — does the ad above sway you any which way?

My guess is: If any voters are still undecided come November, they probably just won’t vote. But if Clinton/Sanders wants to reach these people, s/he is going to need a different strategy to combat the Donald. Because the “hey, you’re an asshole” approach is tired and seems to be adding fuel to the fire that is the Trump campaign.

Sure, this ad is enough to get you excited if you’re already anti-Trump. But do his opposers really need the reinforcement?

If Hillary’s ad is meant to persuade voters in the middle of the pack, there’s only one way this message is effective: if it’s part of a larger, longer campaign to discredit all of the Republicans in this video who eventually turn to support Trump.

Otherwise, he will turn this into an ad for himself (as he somehow did with Cinco de Mayo).

Have any ideas? Let’s talk strategy.
