Happy Birthday To the One That Got Away
“The one that got away” is a theme which has been around as long as love has been around — basically, since the beginning of time. Whether…you’re single, married, divorced or whatever, you probably have a story about someone who got away. Or maybe even a couple of stories. My own “one that got away” is a little different — for starters because she got away more than once. Her name is Jennifer and today is her birthday. ¶ I first met Jennifer in summer camp. If memory serves, I was 11 or 12 at the time. It was my only summer at this Connecticut camp and I didn’t get to know her well.

These days, since they’re so lightweight and mobile, you have to be careful about folks stealing your beloved laptop, tablet, or smartphone…. That’s why it’s a good idea to apply security tags to deter thieves from taking them. However, back in the days of less mobile computing, you didn’t have to worry so much about such things. Plus, well, muttonchops. Good times.

How Ideal
I picked up a bouquet of flowers like I did every Sunday. This wasn’t every Sunday though. So I got a pack of Sour Patch Kids too, her…favorite. As I walked down 2nd towards my apartment, where she was, my heart palpitated through my chest. I usually noticed people passing me by; saying hello to a friendly stranger here and there, but not today. I could only focus on one thing. ¶ She moved in five weeks ago and brightened my life. She had interrupted me and my friend’s conversation in a bar on the Lower East Side about cheating in college.
