Interdimensional

Smith tilted to the left and disappeared, but not like he was traversing a portal, more like every single one of his atoms was traversing a different mini portal.

Let me restate this: it wasn’t as if an invisible mirror stood at his side and he walked right past it; no, that’s not how it works; every single one of his atoms shifted to the left and disappeared, moving into another dimension.

To the viewer, it looked as if he faded, slightly shifting to the side, with a visual look that almost reminded tiny blinders. That, of course, if the viewer was right in front of him; if the viewer was at his side, it looked even weirder.

It was the perfect means of escape, jumping between dimensions.

It’s easy to develop a God complex when you’re able to travel between dimensions, and particularly if you’re really good at it. That was what allowed him to kill people without a second thought. If he was able to jump between dimensions, then he was surely better than everybody else, and that justified all of his decisions.

Just as he was about to escape, Mark shifted in. He saw him shift out and followed him.

Mark wasn’t as good a traveler as Smith and, after every jump, he was visibly weary and took a knee.

Smith saw Mark arrive and smiled:

- You again.

- Me. Again. Not alone.

Another agent shifted in. Mark had a new partner. He seemed to handle the travel far better than Mark, who was still catching his breath.

- Oh, you have a new friend. Sorry about the other guy, by the way.

Smith reached for his gun.

Mark pointed to his colleague and uttered:

- Tele… kinetic.

- A telekinetic? Ah, others were as well!

- This one… not just… telekinetic. Traveler… like us.

- You’re also a traveler and you haven’t stopped me yet. What makes you think he will?

- He will.

Will raised his hand towards Smith.

Smith smiled and prepared to shift if need be.

He felt Will’s grasp around his body and waited to be thrown into the air against some wall, or perhaps lifted and smashed into the ground. That wouldn’t stop him, and he wanted to get a sense of Will’s strength before he reached for his gun.

Will held tight.

Will threw him.

Into several dimensions.

Mark finally managed to get up.

He saw a bit of blood dissolve into the air.

He turned towards Will and said:

- One down, three to go.
