The group entered wearily.

- Where do you find your test subjects?

- We catch them in the wild.

- But… don’t the others miss them?

- No, not really. We catch subjects who are about to commit suicide, who are alone in the wilderness, or whose absence for some reason will not be noticed.

Room after room, the group followed the guide and listened to the explanation:

- We’re testing limits, basically. Here, we’re assessing how they react under extreme hunger and starvation.

In the room, someone could barely move, bones wanting to protrude from the skin.

- This individual is in the stage of resignation, but you’ll see a few other stages in some of the other rooms as well, particularly anger and despair…

The guide paused for a bit, looking at the person slowly dying.

They resumed walking.

- But, of course, anger is of no avail when there is no strength… Or no capacity to think clearly.

Someone laying on the ground was trying to reach for something that would be at their grasp if only they were standing.

Members of the group were clearly disgusted.

- This is awful…

- It has to be done. We need to know.

Someone noticed something new.

- Why are there animals here?

- Necrophagous. They’re waiting.

- Waiting for what? To torture them?

- They’re waiting for their food to be ready, obviously. We’re waiting to see how long until the subjects cease fending off the animals.

They passed the door onto a new building.

- This is a different area. We have one for each item of research.

- And what are you researching in this one?

- Overfeeding.
