During the early hours of this case against Richard Allen, the state requested that the documents be sealed from public view to protect integrity and evidence.

Now after the court order granting previously sealed documents released, we are exposed to the reasons why the state requested that these documents be sealed.

Special judge Fran Gull released the probable cause affidavit which gave light to the reasons for the arrest of Richard Allen for the murders of Abby Williams and Libby German. In those documents, we learned that an unspent bullet was found at the scene that matched the gun owned by Allen.

Carroll County Prosecutor Nicholas McLeland initially asked for the documents to be sealed to protect all of the evidence in the case, especially because it was high profile.

According to the petition filed by McLeland, he wanted the court to seal the documents for the following reasons:

  1. The public interest will be secured by the sealing of the record.
  2. Dissemination of the information contained in the record will create a serious and imminent danger to the public interest.
