Elizabeth Pols has been an artist in the Pioneer Valley for decades. A graduate of Smith College, she spent part of her youth in Italy, which has been the inspiration for much of her artwork. This film looks into her work both on Italy and on a series of slides from a photographer Hope Gray who traveled to the Middle East in the 1930s and ‘50s. Her slides were the inspiration for installations in Pols’ show at that Alumnae House Gallery at Smith College, focusing in part on the destruction wrought by the war in Syria.

From a series of slides shot by Hope Gray that were later thrown away and then recovered by Pioneer Valley artist Elizabeth Pols. Pols used the slides as the inspiration for a series of art installations on Syria in her gallery show at the Alumnae House Gallery at Smith College.
