Art forgery is the method of copying original art, taking credit, and earning money through it. The art forgers make use of intricate techniques to create dubious art. History has revealed that many of the forged artists have been escaped undetected but the ones detected have made their way to fame and money.

This article describes the art forgeries done by famous Renaissance artists like Michelangelo to contemporary artists like Wolfgang Beltracchi.

The world-famous artist Michelangelo was accused of art forgery in his initial career as an artist. Long before he was commissioned to paint the Sistine Chapel, he struggled to get work. And so, he helped other artists to create fake roman and Greek antiquities.

He was employed by the powerful Medici family and was asked to create an ancient-looking sculpture that was buried and found by excavation.
