Compassion is a word that didn’t exist in Hitler’s dictionary, and one of many examples is when Hitler knew he had lost the war and that he didn’t have any choice other than to take his own life.

In April 1945, Hitler knew he had lost the war. With Allied Forces moving ever closer to Berlin, Adolf Hitler didn’t have many options other than two.

Firstly, he either had to surrender to be held accountable for the crimes he had committed, or secondly to take the most extreme step of ending his own life — we all know which one he chose.

However, before ending his own life, he did something that would also be a part of his grim history.

Before consuming the capsules himself, he gave them to his dog to check the potency of the poison (cyanide) given to him by Himmler.

Yup… you read that right. On the 30th of April 1945, he ended his dog’s life before his own. Blondie was the name of the dog gifted to him in 1941.

Hitler raised this German Shepherd puppy himself and was also a part of his propaganda, in which he was used to portraying himself as an animal lover.
