Join a Happy Third Place or Die!
The elderly Chinese, waterfront libraries, and ping pong
Doris would kill me. I won’t lie, I feel like she already has this flaming desire given my horrible technique and apparent incapacity of following directions. But…elderly? Chinese?
Most of the band is, but she is NOT Chinese. Like my partner XJ, she is of Chinese heritage, but contrary to XJ, Doris does not identify with this heritage. It’s her right and her story to tell.
But for my subtitle, it works.
I am mostly frustrated by my incapacity to find a way to watch Join or Die. Joined I did, quite unofficially, a third place.
Lucky me, despite the slow disappearance of many third places, I found my natural third habitat right where I was already, in the company of books.
The City of Melbourne Library family offers residents and visitors places that are one stunner and cosier than the other. For example, the narrm ngarrgu library is a large space, across multiple levels, full of books, rooftop gardens, places to sit and work, and more.
