Neo Rauch — the silent storyteller
…and most important representative of the New Leipzig School
Life
Neo Rauch was born on 18.04.1960 in Leipzig. Rauch’s parents died in a railroad accident four weeks after Neo’s birth. His father (21 years old) was studying at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig at the time and his mother (19 years old) was studying book arts. Neo Rauch therefore grew up with his grandparents.
After graduating from high school, Neo Rauch studied painting at the Academy of Visual Arts. From 2005 he worked as a university lecturer and honorary professor at the Academy of Visual Arts.
Neo Rauch is married to the painter Rosa Loy and has a son. He still lives and works in Leipzig.
Career
Neo Rauch had his first solo exhibitions in Leipzig in 1991. In 1993 following a presentation of his works in the exhibition rooms of the Dresdner Bank AG in Frankfurt.
In 2006 the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg showed a retrospective and in 2007 the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York presented the exhibition “para”.
