The history of yoga has many uncertainties and uncertainties due to the oral transmission of scriptures and the hidden nature of its teachings. The first scriptures on yoga were written on fragile palm leaves that can be easily damaged, destroyed, or lost. The development of yoga can be traced back to 5,000 years ago, but some researchers think yoga can be up to 10,000 years old. The long and rich history of yoga can be divided into four main periods of innovation, practice, and development.

Pre-classical yoga

The beginnings of yoga were developed 5000 years ago by the Indus-Sarasvati civilization in Northern India. The word yoga was first mentioned in Rig Veda, one of the oldest scriptures. Vedas, the Brahmans, was a text collection containing songs, mantras, and rituals to be used by Vedic priests. Yoga was slowly refined and developed by the Brahman and Rishis (mystical crooks) who documented their practice and beliefs in the Upanishads, a giant work with more than 200 writings. The most famous of the Yogic writings is Bhagavad-Gîtâ, which consists of about 500 B.C.E. Upanishads taught ego sacrifice through self-knowledge, action (karma yoga), and wisdom (jnana yoga), taking the idea of ritual sacrifice from the Vedas and internalizing it.
