South Korea is a country that many people know of, because of its infamous neighbor — North Korea, and their lunatic leader Kim Jong-Un, who likes to stay in the news every now and then because of his war threats and crazy governance rules.

But there’s a lot that goes behind the history of this island nation.

A Brief History Of South Korea

The whole of Korea was divided in 1945 when the second world war ended, as the entire country was under Japanese rule. Japan submitted an unconditional surrender, thereby freeing Korea, but also dividing it into two occupational zones with the United States of America administering the southern part and the Soviet Union controlling the northern peninsula.

This division was supposed to be temporary after Japan, the Soviet Union, British and the USA could arrange a single government for the entire landmass. But it never happened because of starkly opposing views of both countries.
