India’s first Netflix Original series ’Sacred Games’ has been receiving rave reviews from across the globe since its release. While some are calling it the ‘Indian Narcos’, the makers have gone on to say that the show will definitely be renewed for further seasons. The government, though, is outraged.

The ruling party has planned to launch its own crime-thriller web series called ‘Saffron Games’. When contacted, the current textile minister and former TV star had this to say: “The entire show has underplayed the role of the government. How do I say this? It just wasn’t saffron enough”. The show is set in Mumbai and follows the life of Ganesh Gaitonde, a fictional local gangster who’s terror knows no bounds. The government though was underwhelmed. A politician who did not want to be named described the character as ‘not really a big deal, not something we don’t see every day’.

While a lot of issues were raised against Sacred Games, some were a little more than slightly absurd. “We are against dynastic ruling. Sacred games promotes nepotism” said a cabinet minister who’s father was a former CM. “Sartaj singh ko tip bhi nepotism ke wajah se mila. Because of his father Dilbagh” he added. “Everyone in the show has daddy issues. Sartaj, Anjali. Bloody Gaitonde has three dads in the show”.

While the show has been praised for its fast paced screenplay and sleek cinematography, the general consensus among the government is that a lot of the show is ‘fluff’. They almost seem to have a problem with the use of logic to explain things. Baffling.

The new show by BJP is set against the backdrop of Ahmedabad instead of Mumbai and is set in 2002. The show plans to show things from the other side — the side of the government and why they think showing the minorities as an actual threat was stupid. On the issue of casting, the spokesperson had this to say: “Ideally we’d like Mr.Rahul to play the role of Sartaj, purely on the basis of his oozing cluelessness. Gaitonde will be played by Amit Bhai while for the role of Radhika Apte, we’ve approached Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, the Croatian Preseident.
