Companies are using internal coaches more than ever. But most lack formal development processes for those coaches.
Of 181 global firms we surveyed, 69% say they expect to rely more on internal coaching. But investment in preparing and rewarding internal coaches lags behind:
• 47% of companies surveyed have no formal recognition program for coaches.
• 24% have no process for training coaches, and 15% use only an informal briefing.
• Only 30% have added internal coaching efforts to employees’ individual performance goals.
Internal coaching can be a highly effective and economical tool, but only if companies invest in their coaches to keep them relevant and engaged.
