Stop being Toxic to yourself. It’s time to Love Yourself!

We as humans have learnt the art of dismissing ourselves and our inner voice… Till we need our help. Till we realize that we are the only ones who can help support us and we can look back on.

Like that one line from the recent song of Imagine Dragons, Bones— Face in the mirror is all I need.

Ironically, the more we are dependent on ourselves and realize that we can trust ourselves the most, the more we neglect ourselves!

Read that again and let that LAND!

We create a toxic relationship of showing up for ourselves only when things go to shit and disappear when everything’s going great. It’s time to re-start that relationship.

Our inner self might be selfless and kind and loving, but it’s time for us to show up exactly as it does for us and build that relationship into a healthy one!

The answer to that is Self-Love!

Self- Love, is a word that all of us have heard but don’t have a personal definition of it. The definition is either very vague or something that has been borrowed from someone else.

The reality of it is that if you want to express and experience self-love, you need to start by defining what that means for you! Here’s a checklist to kick-start that Love -

1. What does love mean to you?

2. What are your standards?

3. What is your love language and how can you do that for yourself?

i. Words of affirmation — Writing something dope and great about yourself and placing it inside a self-love jar,
ii. quality time — Watching your favourite movie/show/ anime, or reading your favourite book,
iii. physical touch — Dancing and loving on yourself,
iv. acts of service — Doing something for yourself that you will appreciate later, like placing love notes around the house or cooking your favourite meal, or buying a bouquet of your favourite flowers and placing it in a spot you visit frequently,
v. receiving gifts — Buying yourself that one book you have been eyeing for a while now or going to the spa!

4. What does your ideal relationship look like?

Once you have answered these questions, you start to build your relationship the right way!

Take yourself out on a date and learn to enjoy alone time with yourself!

It might be a bit awkward in the beginning if you aren’t used to it, but it’s important to learn to be alone with your thoughts without the itch of doing something else showing up.

A great way to start this practice is also by meditating for a minute. Let your thoughts flow freely, and notice them instead of brushing or forcing them aside.
