As The Conscious Life Collective continues this journey inward, this discovery of self-awareness and realization, I invite you to tune into distractions, obstructions, issues — when it comes to meditation.

We all “know we should do it” for a million reasons. And we all have a million excuses not to. What are those?

  • Don’t have time?
  • Too many distractions?
  • Don’t know how or where to begin?
  • Haven’t found a style you like?
  • Not sure if you’re doing it right?

This week, your challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to TRY to meditate more than you did last week — be it once, thrice, daily, or more. Yoda says, “Do or do not. There is no try.” But now I encourage you to notice what keeps you from meditating when you do not.

Whatever it is, it’s valid — acknowledge it and share it on this post. If you want to start or re-start a meditation practice, potentially the key to unlocking your higher self, let’s figure out how to overcome challenges and get you meditating. If you have a consistent meditation practice, we’d love to hear your tips and tricks. A few of ours…

  • The Ritual. Same time, same place, daily. It’s become ritual, a routine, a habit. For us it’s 5:30am, before our toddler wakes, in addition to other auspicious and science’y reasons to dive in before the rest of the world rises.
  • The Space. We love scents to set the tone — cleanse with sage, light your favorite incense, or diffuse essential oils. Richard sits on yoga blocks and I like to wrap up in a blanket.
  • The Style. Make a conscious choice as to how you will meditate — silent, guided, walking, with music, etc, and be prepared with any props (blocks, cushions, blankets, headphones, etc). The fewer distractions en route, the better. Look here for inspiration and guided meditations.
  • Journal. Consider writing down any revelations or insights immediately following your meditation.
  • Accountability. It’s nice to have a meditation buddy. We’re happy to be yours :)

Looking forward to hearing about your challenges, and sharing ours!
