The classic narcissist is often thought of as charming, charismatic, and confident. However, not all narcissists are like that.

Some of them hide behind a mask of sensitivity and passive-aggressiveness. Instead of being obvious in their elevated sense of self and their arrogance when interacting with others, their narcissism manifests in much more subtle ways — which makes them much more difficult to identify.

Covert narcissists have the same core psychological issues as overt narcissists: lack of empathy, the need for admiration, deep insecurities and feelings of inadequacy, the tendency to control others, etc. The big difference lies in the tactics they use to meet their needs.

Here are 5 ways to identify a covert narcissist.

1. They’re emotionally fragile and get offended very easily.
