You Can’t Heal Your Wounds If You Keep Pretending They Don’t Exist

We’re experts at denying our own pain.

If you had told me a few years ago that acknowledging our pain was an act of strength, I’d have laughed at you.

I believed that being cold and detached was my best trait. It didn’t matter how hurt I was, or how painful my past had been — I was so good at pretending I was fine that I actually convinced myself I was happy.

This is what we’re programmed to do. We dismiss our own needs, we avoid our own emotions. We do our best to live as disconnected as possible because we know how terrifying it can be to face our true emotions— but what we’re really doing is delaying our healing.

How can we release something we can’t even face? How can we expect to get better if we don’t even have the courage to feel our pain?

Here’s what I want you to know: your wounds will never magically disappear. They will still be there, and they will keep bleeding until you’re brave enough to heal them.

And you can’t heal them if you don’t even acknowledge their presence.

Denying Your Pain Doesn’t Make You Any Stronger
