Apple released today the iOS 4.1 software update. The update adds 4 new main features: Game Center, HDR Photos (iPhone 4 only), iTunes Ping and iTunes TV show rentals. But the anticipated feature is the fix for several bugs in: proximity sensor, bluetooth and performance on iPhone 3G. The update is available through iTunes 10 and is supported on the iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G and the iPod Touch 4th, 3rd, and 2nd generation (some features are not supported on some of the devices).

Game Center is a feature that interests mostly developers and, of course, gamers. Developers are currently working overtime in order for their apps to support the new feature and a few games were already updated: Ms. Pac-Man, Azkend, Flight Control, Real Racing, Enigmo and more will come in the next hours and days, it’s just a matter of time.

While the iPhone 3G performance with iOS 4.0 had been making the news for bugs in the software, the iPod Touch 2nd generation (model from the same year as the 3G) had also its share of problems (sub-par overall responsiveness and a few crashes). I’m glad to say that I’m noticing some nice improvement on my iPod Touch 2nd gen, too. Despite the performance fixes, iPhone 3G owners are out of luck concerning Game Center as this feature is unfortunately not available on the device.
