All the talk, debate, discussion, battle, (whatever you want to call it) between Adobe and Apple regarding the absence of Flash on the iPhone/iPad seems to sprout some interesting concepts and research in order to make the not-so-possible, possible.

Hence, Smokescreen. Smokescreen is a free open source project that aims at converting Flash to Javascript/HTML5. It is still in its early days (it’s a preview release) but some examples show interesting results (you can check the demos here).

It seems to target particularly Flash ads integrated into web pages. Smokescreen’s goal is to allow this content to appear in Apple’s mobile devices. According to the Smokescreen blog the code we’ll be out soon and developers may delve into it and try to get Smokescreen to support conversion for even more Flash features (according to Engadget, video or games are still not good — I’m thinking this is not the main goal of Smokescreen — it’s a much difficult thing to pull off).

According to MacRumors, Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen regarding Steve Jobs’ open letter on Flash, called Apple CEO’s comments “really a smokescreen”. Is the irony intentional?
