Learn how to indulge your inner child with a no-bake, layered dessert that will wow the entire family

Tiramisu means pick-me-up in Italian. The dessert traditionally includes espresso, which might explain the name. Of course, the caffeine gives you a jolt.

People all over Italy make this dessert and have created a number of variations, including strawberry tiramisu and lemon tiramisu. With the inclusion of coffee or alcohol in these versions, the dessert is usually for grown-ups only.

Adults might prefer the dessert because of its origin story, too. Supposedly, the original recipe for tiramisu was born in a brothel in Treviso, Italy, in the 1960s. This might give the name, pick-me-up, an entirely different meaning, but I digress.

Kids should not be left out of the tiramisu phenomenon. The subscription service Rad Dish, which sends kids monthly recipes and a kitchen gadget to make them, seems to agree. My son received the subscription as a gift, and we were quick to make the chocolate tiramisu.

We were also quick to adapt and change the recipe to make it a chocolate milk version. You should give our version a try, and feel free to experiment yourself…
