Copy Tip Monday — More Than Just a Sale

By definition, much of a copywriter’s success is measured by how effective his or her copy is in delivering conversions; so what could be more important?

Disclaimer: when I say “much” I mean 99.99% of a copywriter’s success is measured on the ability to convert.

Now, that is what it success is measured by in our field, but what is most important in our field? What is the most neglected aspect of writing copy? How do you inspre more conversions without focusing on getting the sale? Success without the dollar signs in mind leads to a very indepth conversation.

However, in a word, value. Value is what will always be most important. Yes, I know, the perceived value is a part of your email or direct mailer campaigns. Yup, I assumed it is in your brochures and blog posts as well.

If your copy contains a need or satisfies a craving, the conversions will come; if you focus on the WIIFM’s (What’s In It For ME) that’s when the abundance will come.

What joy, value, and reward do you get out of your writing? Money doesn’t count. When you focus on why you’re doing something you’ll instantly generate more value. Maybe it’s suggesting a strong content marketing strategy to your client. Maybe it’s a suggestion for a plug for a longer free trial. Whatever it is, it’ll always result in generating more genuine value for the end user. The customer will know the WIIFM and they will believe that there is truly something good coming from that product or service.

When you write with your ‘why’ in mind the value will show through your writing voice.
