“Thou shalt not.” Did God Really Say That?
In religion, we often hear about “sin,” which is seen as something that separates us from God. It’s commonly believed that the “original sin” mentioned in the Bible led to humanity’s fall from grace, creating a gap between people and God. Today, I’d like to offer you a fresh perspective on the concept of “sin” that may resonate with you, particularly if this page found you.
Before we begin, I want you to keep 3 things in mind:
- No Judgment, Just Reflection: If something I write does not resonate with you, do not judge it. Simply allow it to be my truth. Then ask yourself why you’re feeling the way you are. If needed, take a break from reading.
- My Beliefs, Your Choice: Remember, these are my beliefs. They have produced fruit for me. You are not required to accept what you read.
- Listen to Your Inner Voice: Listen to your Inner Voice, the “I AM” within you. It will tell you if this makes sense for you.
The Garden of Eden & Everlasting Light
We begin this short discourse in the Garden of Eden, where the concept of sin was born. According to the Bible, God told Adam and Eve “thou shalt not eat” from the tree of knowledge of good & evil. But the serpent tempted Eve, saying that eating the fruit wouldn’t lead to death but would make them like God, knowing good and evil. Eve ate the fruit and gave some to Adam.
This disobedience is often called the “original sin,” leading to humanity’s fall and the introduction of sin and death (separation) into the world.
Most people think that disobeying God caused this separation (sin). But I AM come with a different perspective. Are you open to hearing it?
Imagine this: At the very beginning of time God said, “Let There Be Light,” and everything came into existence. When God spoke those words, it was like turning on a cosmic switch. This Light created everything in the Universe, from Stars and Galaxies to the tiniest particles. Light is the Source of everything, even Darkness, which is another vibration of Light.
Think about this for a moment: The Light that God called forth eons ago has been shining ever since He spoke it. Nothing can turn it off, because when God speaks a thing, it exists eternally. Everything God creates must be that which He is, and it cannot be anything else. Therefore, when God speaks a thing, it must exist eternally because that is what God Is. The Sun, Stars, Moon, and every atom in between — we all exist because of those Words spoken infinities ago, “Let there be Light.”
In like manner, if God says, “thou shalt NOT do something,” it would be impossible to perform that act. It wouldn’t even be possible to conjure the thought, lest it be immediately snatched away.
Some have argued that God gives us free will, which assumes that our will overrides God’s Word. Does that sound accurate — that we can usurp God’s Word? We already proved that when God speaks, His words must produce results.
Another question: Would a loving God give us the freedom to choose, knowing that one of those choices lead to eternal punishment? What kind of choice is free when choosing one thing over the other brings condemnation?
Consider this: In being the first to make a “wrong” choice, Adam and Eve produced the possibility of making any choice at all.
These thoughts force me to ask, “Did God really say ‘thou shall not’,” or have we interpreted these events from a lens of duality (right and wrong) as opposed to Oneness? I have questions because the older narratives do not serve me any longer; they do not make sense, nor does the math add up for me.
Made in God’s Image
Let’s deviate momentarily to talk about the serpent. Genesis records him as saying:
“For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God.” — Genesis 3:5 (NIV)
But the truth is, we are already like God:
“Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;’” — Genesis 1:26
If we are already like God, then our Godliness cannot be undone by our choices, nor our will, because God already spoke it; therefore, nothing can undo it. Remember, once God speaks something, it never changes.
From this one can deduce: It is impossible that any choice you ever make, or anything you ever do, could ever possibly separate you from your Source — not now, not ever.
Do we really want to continue to hold on to the narrative of a burning hell where we are tortured for not making the “right” choices? Every person must answer this for themselves.
Rethinking “Sin”
What if real “sin” is not actually separation from God, but the belief that separation is possible. Do you see the difference?
In my original view of sin, I am separate from God by nature of my imperfection and my inability to always make the “right” choice. However, my enlightened definition of sin is rooted in my awareness that I Am already perfect, and there is nothing that can separate me from God, except my belief in the illusion that separation is possible.
Read the story of the adulterous woman in John 8:1–11. When Jesus told the woman, “Go and sin no more,” I’ve always believed that to mean, “Stop doing the thing that keeps you separated from God.” From my new definition of sin, the meaning of this scripture is “Go, and let go of the belief that separation from God is possible by any act you do.”
In Hebrews 12:1, when Paul says, “Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles,” consider that it might not mean avoiding sinful actions, but shedding the belief in separation from the Light that You Are.
And again Paul says, “The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life” (Romans 6:23 ESV). In other words, the belief that separation is possible is the very idea that will lead you to the illusion that separation (death) is possible.
At the end of the day, these are the beliefs that have served me, guiding my spiritual journey. I now see the Bible in a new way, and I think others might too as our planet moves towards higher vibrational frequencies of love, and acceptance of all that is.
What are your thoughts on this perspective of “sin”? Have you had experiences or insights that resonate with this viewpoint? Share your thoughts in the comments section, and let’s explore this together. In the meantime, I’d like to leave you with a meditation from my book, “Defrag Your Life, Discover Your Genius.”
Guided Meditation
Find a quiet space where you can remain undisturbed for five to ten minutes. Then sit in a comfortable position. In your mind, I want you to set an intention to connect with your personal Christ within. Say, “My Mighty Master I AM Presence, speak to me!”
Allow yourself to let go of all of your OUTER senses, and FOCUS your thoughts & feelings INward, the God of the entire Universe, IN your heart.
“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thine INNER chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee.” — Matthew 6:6 (ASV)
Yes, God lives there too! In this Great Silence, command every atom of your being to pause and give Honor to the Source of All Things. Take a deep breath IN through your nose, hold it for 7 seconds, and then release it OUT through your mouth. Repeat this a few times.
~~~~~
Imagine seeing a GREAT Shining Light six inches above your head. This is the Light of God in your crown chakra. Now extend your consciousness outside of your body and see that this Light is actually a giant Pillar of Light that extends infinitely upward — beyond what your eyes can see. This, too, is the Light of God extending all the way back to His/Herself. You see that this Pillar of God’s Light goes right through your body and flows (like a river) into the heart of the Earth, and then extends infinitely downward past the Earth into the Universe beyond where your eyes can see. You may take your body and move it upward or downward along this column of Light. If you were to follow the Light infinitely in any direction (up or down), you would eventually end up back at the same point.
Now I’d like you to bring your consciousness and awareness (through your thought FOCUS) into your heart chakra. See the pillar of God’s Light anchored there, filling every chakra in your body from this point. You move into the Light, and you begin to feel it’s Love permeating every part of your body simultaneously. Feel this Light filling your entire body above the heart with infinite DIVINE Love and Light. (Pause for 30 seconds).
Now feel the Light filling your entire body below the heart with infinite DIVINE Love and Light. (Pause for 30 seconds) Feel God’s Love permeating every atom and particle in your body with His Radiant Light. (Pause for 30 seconds)
Wait! What’s this? You zoom your consciousness into one of the atoms in your body and see that It, too, is connected to its own Pillar of Light. You zoom out to see that ALL of the atoms in your body do the same. Now, as you look outside of your body, you see this same pillar extending into everything the Light touches. There is nothing anywhere where this Light does not touch. Take a moment and pause to feel the Oneness with ALL That Is around you.
Share in the beauty of the Light around you by affirming, “I AM a child of the Light! I love the Light. I serve the Light. I am protected, illuminated, provided for, and sustained by the Light. And I bless the Light!”
“You are all children of the light…” — 1 Thessalonians 5:5 (NIV)
You express your gratitude by sending out a massive ray of Divine Love that looks like a rainbow of pulsating energy — ribbons of Light extending from your heart.
Now I’d like for you to close your eyes and take one to two minutes to LISTEN and FEEL the Love of your Higher Self; this is the same LOVE that holds planets in orbit around the Sun.
