A Historic Ride

Langkawi, Malaysia

My husband and I were holidaying in Langkawi, Malaysia. We had rented a two-wheeler. The weather was nice, the roads were empty and had beautiful pine trees along-side. We were enjoying the “best ride” of our life.

Out of nowhere we heard loud sirens behind us. We turned around and saw the Malaysian police following us. We slowed down and one of the officers, tilting his head out of the window, screamed — follow us.

We followed the police, this time being extra cautious about the speed. We landed in the police station. Both of us were thoroughly interrogated for two hours and were asked questions on Indian History. That moment I felt like a child who is made to sit for a surprise history test. Thankfully, after the test, we didn’t land in the lock up.

I know this is not an incident to be proud of but being set free in a foreign land was a great relief. We had a good laugh on our way back.

History was never my favorite subject but I started taking some interest in it, just in case, history repeats itself.
