as there are many who will never have

express gratitude to the stone

for it tripped the walk of sleep

and left you grounded to feel

that balance is all you need

to tread over barriers and bumps

and generate friction to burn

express gratitude to the whiff of air

which was your only need

when left throttled, submerged despaired

express gratitude to that love you lost

pained you penned a memorable ghost

and to the sting of the bee

which enlightened your senses

and awoke your core

to show unsightly feelings

meant to be endured

express gratitude to dreams never realized

for they gave you emptiness to think and strive

express gratitude to what all makes you alive

you can expand the bubble through your will

knowing very well that it may burst and one day it will

dampen your eyes, clasp your hands and bow heartily

even if you are in pain

show acceptance and don’t resist

do it now and for the now

for the past comes on wobbly crutches

future rides hallucinatory horses

for a change open your hands to receive

and not grasp, gather or deceive

your empty hands show gratefulness

in everything, nature has bestowed

and then there are those grumpy hands

who appear full but only want more

Thank you Lisa Tomey for the prompt Gratitude.
