Romanji — Romance with Emojis

Two months after marriage💒⚭,
My wife and I were miles away in two different cities👰🤵.
Texting turned out to be a crucial bridge🌉💏,
Narrowing our love life proximities🔒💞.

Romance by messaging is easy today 💬📱,
But it wasn’t a piece of cake back then🧁🎂.
A herculean task to put my feelings on our love tray💪🏋️‍♂️,
To show my face and expressions of a loving man🥰🙋🏻‍♂️.

I could write her poems and Shakespearean letters💌🕊,
But She wasn’t appreciative of subtle poetry😐👊.
My metaphors were often acting as evil upsetters✍🏻🧿,
When she misinterpreted using literal meanings of a vocabulary tree📚🌴.

Love life must be juicy, I thought🥤🥰.
How do I share the rhythm of my heart and emotions 🌊💓?
As I always believed in saying a few words that mean a lot💧💦,
To make them work like drops of magic portions🧙‍♂️🎩.

I knew about the fancy eyes and yellow faces😍🧐,
But, I feared that they would make me look childish😨😰.
With hesitation, I started to use them in a few places🙄😅,
But wary enough, not to appear as overly stylish🤠😎.

We slowly started using them to speak our emotions🙊🐢,
Our texts were grooming into a hot emoting wrap🎁💝.
Our romance was getting daily promotions🎢💗,
Emojis were giving our words the necessary love rap🎻🎸.

I could be classic during the Valentine week 🌹😘,
Surprising her on our dinner dates with something nice 👗🍷.
Treating both of us with a full meal that’s literally Greek🍸🥐,
As it helps in kicking our honeymoon memories to Greece 🇬🇷🏖.

Sometimes on our anniversary in December🥂⛄️,
When I’m short of funds to buy her something expensive 💰🥺.
I still gift her a diamond ring, a subtle hint of my financial surrender ⚐✌️,
Even without a price tag, my love is so much expressive 💍🤑.

Emojis were silently spicing our romantic lives😘🧂,
Becoming a daily need for our hearts ❤️🌞.
Two busy bees were cooking something in their hives🐝👨‍🍳👩‍🍳,
Piece by piece, Romanji was being born in parts🍯 🐣.

On Friday afternoons, when we’re at work👨‍💻👩‍💻💼,
We check if both are in for bowling or a movie plan 🎳🍿📽.
I like documentaries on war and horror movies — a bit of my quirk☣️👻,
While she is a big gossip girl and a cute comedy fan🤪📺.

Although, I use Uber for my daily evening commute 🚙 🏢,
She sometimes picks me up if I end my business day early🌻🕔.
If it’s hot, we’d stop by an ice cream vendor to chill for a minute🍦❄️,
Killing stress with every lick to make us feel our day was worthy😇🙃.

Her hug for me, and my kiss on her forehead🤗😚,
Both are now our daily afternoon snacks🍰🍩.
I don’t carry her lipstick marks on my collar-head 💋👔,
But her scent always stays in my memory tracks👃🌸.

We are one of the shy Indian couples 👫,
Not much into sexting and role-play🎭👨‍🏫💃.
But the internet memes do give us a few chuckles🍆👄,
Euphemizing bananas and peaches for love-making in an erotic way🍌🍑.

Every single day, our love is blooming💗💘.
Growing stronger as we reconcile after each tiny heartbreak 💔🥀.
Growing closer with kinky kisses and nights of spooning 😘🥄.
Going deeper day by day, with bites of Romanji’s love cake 🥮💕.

*Author’s note:
Last week, while cracking a joke on
Ashwini Dodani’s comment that was full of emojis, I coined the term “Romanji”:

A word that I jokingly created made me think more about how it has already been influencing romance in my life. A few days and many heartbeats later, my poetic soul came up with a composition on Romanji, which is very close to my heart.

Emojis are a useful tool for communication. You might also like to read:
