This is the first article in our new series with insight scoops and tips from the workflow of different creators.

Illustrators have this remarkable design system inside of them. It’s how they casually end up visualizing something and then are able to put it on paper or digitize it. It is always interesting to see how their minds work.

Illustrators working in an organization might be required to stay within certain guidelines. This, in a way can be a good process to stretch within the boundaries and find newer possibilities. Meanwhile, the free birds, might just keep revolving around ‘how much is too much’ zone. Here finding the middle ground can be a little tricky at times.

That being said, we’ve some helpful tips from the daily routines of modern day illustrators for you to reflect and learn from.

Thought Process

Build it with a paper and pen by your side!

Thoughts keep rolling in after a good brief, making a quick doodle or sketch out of them is something the illustrators often do. These notes become an extension of their thoughts that they can keep revisiting.

Putting all their thoughts and inspirations in a mood-board, ideally ends up becoming a huge Illustrator art-board. 😉

Adapt, Adapt and Adapt

Creative adaptability comes in handy, whether the illustration is ready or not, they will inevitably turn to this.

As Sherry Wu, a design strategist says “ Design, as a crucial cognitive ability, is to solve people’s problems given the knowledge of human conditions and human needs.”
The designers know that deliverable comes at cost of how they plan or play the first stroke out on the empty canvas in front of them. Every iteration makes the final output more clear and becomes a part of the process.

Creative Freedom

How to have that? Well, our designers here know to how to keep that. Its simple, all you need is to take enough time to think and produce the initial output. This stage of thoughts and the freedom without any constraint is utmost important to get maximum results.

Identify the Purpose

What are we creating, who are the consumers, what is the brand strategy and goals — are all important considerations while illustrating for a particular project. If you don’t know the purpose, these points do not and will not make sense” — quotes our in-house designer and doodler.

Get Inspired

A daily dose of reading, or surfing the net and social media is what gets the creative juices flowing.
Taking time off from the world and letting your minds soak inspiration is also a good start to get fresh ideas. But ultimately it all depends on your imagination — how you want to use these daily inspirations to create something wonderful.

Some of our favorite sources of inspiration include Geektyrant , Dribbble and of course Instagram.
