“So much time and so little to do. Wait a minute. Strike that. Reverse it.” ~ Willy Wonka
Make this the year you get out of your comfort zone. As Renda Writer likes to write…
If all you’re doing is what comes naturally to you, you’re selling yourself — and the rest of us, short.
If all you’re doing is what everyone else is doing, so what?
This applies to your art, salesmanship, writing, music, dance, photography, marketing… you get the idea.
If you’re just keeping up with the crowd, Big Deal!
Get out of your comfort zone.
Here’s a good starting point: Make someone’s day. Today. Make a child smile. Walk an elderly person across a busy road. Provide encouraging words to someone suffering. Make someone’s day today.
And if you can make someone’s day one day a year, you can make someone’s day every day of the year. Imagine if your team at work made “Make Their Day” a priority. The consequences could be extraordinary, wouldn’t you agree? The Pike Place Fish Market men and women weaved this into their cultural fabric decades ago and it continues to serve them well.
Hold yourself to a higher standard of excellence. We need to stop letting other people determine what our standard is and set our own standard, develop our own passion for excellence.
Your comfort zone is crowded with average people marching to the beat of someone else’s drum, someone else’s agenda and dream. Why be average when you can be excellent?
Get up earlier. Study more. Make exercise and healthy eating a priority lasting beyond the thrill of New Year’s resolutions. Make someone’s day today.
If you do these things you’ll feel better about yourself and serve as an example for others struggling within their own uninspired comfort zones. Wheels up!
